Webster Parish, Louisiana

Population 41,831

If you're looking for a scenic place to retire, a wholesome place to start a family or just a weekend retreat from the hustle and bustle of the work week, then you'll want to consider Webster Parish. With little crime, and lots to do, the friendly people of this small community still have all the advantages of living within close proximity to the major metropolitan area of Shreveport-Bossier. The climate, 7 tennis courts, 2 golf courses, 3 major lakes and access to several health care facilities, clubs and many churches all combine to make this an ideal place to visit or live.

With 390,835 acres of rolling red clay hills, pine forests and hardwood bottoms you'll see why we're a part of the area known as "Sportsman's Paradise". Webster Parish has a rural, country-like atmosphere and this provides the citizens with plenty of opportunities to pursue outdoor activities ranging from almost year-round gardening, fishing and golfing to lots of summertime boating and swimming.  Average annual temperature is 65 degrees. Four seasonal changes occur each year with very mild winters.

In 1835, Charles Veeder laid out a town grid in the shape of a parallelogram. This is now what is known as Minden, the parish seat of Webster. The streets are paved with the original bricks brought in at the turn of the century. Leaving Main Street, you proceed down a beautiful boulevard into the Historical Retail and Residential area.

Springhill, located in the northwest corner of Louisiana, has a small-town atmosphere while offering opportunities found in much larger cities. Originating in the early 1800's as a farming community, Springhill soon became known as a center for lumber and wood products due to its lush pine and hardwood forests. International Paper Company located a large Kraft Paper Mill in the area in 1937 and thus, created an industrial center for north Louisiana. Today, the city has a diversified economy with modern medical facilities and schools. Area lakes and forests offer a variety of recreational opportunities for its citizens and visitors alike.

Webster Parish has preserved its history, but at the same time succeeded in meeting the challenges of today's changing times. For the right climate, location and environment, few places can compare to Webster Parish. With so much to offer, it is no wonder people are making Webster Parish their vacation or home.
